What is the difference between a full service and an interim?
Interim or full service? In other words, interim services are mainly carried out on vehicles that are used for shorter journeys and a full service for those that regularly do long journeys. An interim service generally checks levels of the fluids, including brake fluid, screen wash and anti-freeze coolant.
What gets done in a full service?
Checking lights, tyres, exhaust and operations of brakes and steering. Ensuring your engine is ‘tuned’ to run in its peak condition. Checking hydraulic fluid and coolant levels. Checking the cooling system (from radiators in your car to pumps and hoses)
Can I service my own car and keep the warranty?
You can service your own car and keep the warranty. According to the Magnuson-Moss Warranty act, which is enforced by the Federal Trade Commission, it’s illegal for manufacturers or dealers to void your warranty or deny you coverage because you performed the work yourself.
Is it better to get car serviced at dealer?
There the advantage definitely goes to the dealer. First, a dealer will perform repairs for free if your car is still under warranty. Small shops can offer warranties on service or repairs, but may not offer the same length of coverage or may cover only the parts or the labor, but not both.
Is it illegal to not service your car?
Unlike an MOT, servicing your car isn’t compulsory. In theory, you could own a car for ten years and never service it, only putting it through its MOT every year and dealing with any repairs due in order for it to pass.
Does a car really need a service every year?
Generally, your car should be serviced once a year or every 10,000-12,000 miles. A full service is highly recommended although if the vehicle is regularly serviced then a basic service will help to keep it running smoothly and hassle free.
