Do you drink mead warm or cold?
The temperature of the mead you drink is really up to you. We suggest that lighter dry meads should be served chilled, like many white wines. Darker, sweeter or stronger flavored meads can be served either at room temperature or chilled.
Is Mead more expensive than wine?
Again like beer or wine, mead takes time to produce because it’s a fermented drink. Aged wine tends to be more expensive the longer it’s in the cellar, and mead sometimes follows that same line. A traditional mead, for example, can take six to eight months to brew, assuming you want a higher alcohol content.
How much money do you need to make mead?
The standard for a 5-gallon batch is 15 pounds of honey, and once you add in the cost of yeast and any other flavorings, you’re easily spending $100 or more. A half-gallon batch on the other hand costs about $10. Beyond the cost of ingredients, a full 5-gallon batch home brew setup is expensive.
Does bottled Mead go bad?
An unopened bottle can easily last years or even decades. Once you open the bottle, the classic mead will easily last a few months in great shape. Please remember that with time its quality will drop and if you decide to drink some mead that sits opened in a cabinet for over a year, it might not taste that great.
Can Mead kill you?
An infected mead will smell and taste odd and probably not be pleasant to drink but it won’t kill you or make you sick (again unless you over indulge).
Should I mix fermenting mead?
Fermentation. Unlike with most beers, during mead fermentation, you still have work to do. You’ll get best results if you stir the mead during the first third to half of the fermentation. Stirring twice a day is generally sufficient (if you have a fast fermentation, you might want to stir three or four times a day).

Can you make mead in a 5 gallon bucket?
Fill the bucket the rest of the way up to the 5 gallon mark (most fermenting buckets will have marks for each gallon) with cold (non chlorinated) water. Stir well, then add your raisins and optional fruit and orange slices. Ferment for 6 weeks. Once fermentation is complete, bottle the mead.
